Accessible Housing and Transportation

Housing

ADA designated hotel rooms will be specifically set aside for individuals requesting them. Be sure to indicate your specific needs in the online housing form. Each year, APHA conducts a detailed accessibility survey (available mid-June) of all official APHA hotels. These surveys (completed by the hotels) provide information about accessible entrances, parking and drop-off areas and information regarding accessible public areas, guest rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, hotel amenities and assistive devices. Use this information to select the hotel that best meets your needs.

Headquarters Hotel: Hilton Minneapolis – 1001 S Marquette Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403

The Hilton Minneapolis is just three blocks from the Minneapolis Convention Center and is connected to the convention center via an indoor skywalk. The skywalk is easy to access with elevators. The Hilton is a fully accessible hotel including accessible entrances, visual alarm for hearing impaired, roll-in shower options and grab bars in the bathroom.

Accessible rooms are guaranteed. Make hotel reservations as early as possible as there are a limited number of accessible rooms available at each property.

Be sure to ask if your hotel adds scent to rooms. All hotels can remove the scent by request.

Getting There and Getting Around

Minneapolis Convention Center – 1301 2nd Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55404

The Minneapolis Convention Center is fully accessible and located near many hotels, restaurants and city amenities. APHA will be utilizing all of the MCC.

Airport: Minneapolis is serviced by Minneapolis Airport (MSP). The airport is 12 miles from the Minneapolis Convention Center. Visit the airport’s website for more information about accessible travel.

Public Transportation (Metro Transit):

  • Metro Transit Trip Planner Buses are readily available at the MCC, the airport, Mall of America and at most hotels. Use Metro Transit's Trip Planner for easy door-to-door directions for buses and light-rail trains.
  • Free bus rides are available on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis and to and from the MCC. This gives you an easy way to go from one end of town to the other – for free! The free service on selected routes between Grant Street and Washington Avenue is offered on buses marked "Free Ride."
  • Learn more about Metro Transit’s accessibility services.

Parking at the MCC: The MCC has partnered with four City of Minneapolis parking ramps to increase attendee convenience. All ramps are connected through the skyway system and are located within two blocks of the MCC. Learn more about parking options.

Minneapolis Travel Information:

APHA Shuttle Service: Wheelchair accessible van transportation can be scheduled upon request to nearby hotels for those utilizing a wheelchair, scooter or who cannot walk longer distances. Visit or call the ADA Van Shuttle Desk located in the lobby of the Minneapolis Center. Please provide the shuttle company with advance notice of when and where you will need a pickup. Be sure to indicate during registration and housing that you plan to use the On Call Accessible Transportation. We will send special instructions on how to contact the desk in advance of the meeting.

Taxi Services: Accessible taxi cabs are available in Minneapolis. Registrants who are unable to utilize APHA’s on call accessible transportation option may utilize cab service, Lyft or Uber to and from official APHA hotels and the Convention Center. APHA will reimburse for taxi fares between the Convention Center and official APHA Annual Meeting properties. Submit all receipts to APHA after the meeting (c/o Conventions Dept., 800 I Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001) no later than Nov. 22. APHA will not reimburse for taxi fares from the Convention Center to offsite events as these are not sanctioned APHA events.
