Accessible Housing
ADA designated hotel rooms will be specifically set aside for individuals requesting them. Be sure to indicate your specific needs in the online housing form. Make hotel reservations as early as possible. While accessible rooms are guaranteed, there are a limited number of accessible rooms available at each property.
Headquarters Hotel: Marriott Marquis (901 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001) is just one block from the Washington Convention Center and is connected to the WCC via a tunnel. The tunnel is easy to access, with elevators from the Marriott to the Convention Center.
Be sure to ask if your hotel adds scent to rooms. All hotels can remove the scent by request.
Accessible Travel
The Annual Meeting will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (801 Allen Y. Lew Place NW, Washington, DC 20001). The center is fully accessible and located near many hotels, restaurants, and city amenities including the Metro.
Getting there and Getting Around
Airport: Washington, D.C. is serviced by three airports – DCA (5 miles from the WCC), IAD (30 miles from the WCC), and BWI (30 miles from the WCC). DCA and IAD are accessible by Metro, and BWI is accessible by the MARC Train. Visit the airports’ websites for more information about accessible travel.
By Metro: The Convention Center sits atop the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station served by Metro's Green and Yellow lines. Alternatively, take the Red Line to the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station which is a 5-minute walk from the Convention Center. See more information about WMATA accessibility here.
By Train: Amtrak serves DC's Union Station and is connected to the DC Metro on the Red Line.
APHA Shuttle: APHA's shuttle service is fully acessible. Learn more.
By Car & Parking: Whether you’re driving yourself or using a rideshare service, Google Maps can help get you here. Multiple parking garages are located around the Convention Center with hourly and daily rates. APHA Shuttle Service: Wheelchair accessible van transportation can be scheduled upon request to nearby hotels for those utilizing a wheelchair, scooter or who cannot walk longer distances. Visit or call the ADA Van Shuttle Desk located at the L Street Entrance near room 156. Convention Center. Please provide the shuttle company with advance notice of when and where you will need a pickup. Be sure to indicate during registration and housing that you plan to use the On-Call Accessible Transportation. We will send special instructions on how to contact the desk in advance of the meeting.
Taxi Services: Accessible taxi cabs are available in Washington, D.C. Registrants who are unable to utilize APHA’s on-call accessible transportation option may utilize cab service, Lyft, or Uber to and from official APHA hotels and the Convention Center. APHA will reimburse for taxi fares between the Convention Center and official APHA Annual Meeting properties. Submit all receipts to APHA after the meeting (c/o Event Operations Dept., 800 I Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001) no later than Friday, Nov. 21. APHA will not reimburse for taxi fares from the Convention Center to offsite events hosted by affiliate groups as these are not sanctioned APHA events.
