The Center for Public Health Policy at APHA would like to introduce their newly formed Disability Justice Advisory Board to help advise on the center’s work at the intersection of disability justice and public health. By focusing on the 10 Principles of Disability Justice, APHA aims to shift the mindset of public health professionals to a more disability justice centered approach!

Hassanatu Blake
Dr. Hassanatu Blake is an associate clinical professor and inaugural director of the Global Health Undergraduate Program in the Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health at the University of Maryland School of Public Health.
Raynisha Jackson
Raynisha Jackson is a deaf advocate and project manager with experience leading programs that expand educational access and create inclusive spaces for the Black deaf community.
Marcus Johnson
Marcus D. Johnson (he, him, his) is a seasoned disability rights advocate, mental health professional, and leader in accessible design and policy.
Rivers Laraque-Ho
Rivers Laraque-Ho (they/them) is a genderbending writer, editor and perennial work in progress. They are passionate about punctuation and enjoy working across genres and disciplines in the name of accessible language, open communication and shared knowledge.
Mustafa Rfat
Mustafa Rfat's expertise centers on the intersection of disability, migration, and health equity. Mustafa studies how refugees and immigrants with disabilities navigate fragmented health and social systems in the United States and abroad.
Derek Schmitz A.A.S. (they/them)
Derek Schmitz A.A.S. (they/them), is a young, queer, chronically ill and disabled advocate based in Alabama. Derek is passionate about public policy, inclusion, community-building and mutual aid.
Mary Kathryn Curcio Stoddard (she/her)
Mary Kathryn Curcio Stoddard (she/her) is an AuDHD advocate with dyscalculia, GAD, and C-PTSD. She is currently a chronic disease epidemiologist and program evaluator at the Utah Department of Health and Human Services with the Healthy Environments Active Living Program focusing on obesity, nutrition, physical activity and school health.
Shannon Stubblefield
Shannon Stubblefield (they/she) is a Black, dyslexic, disabled, and asexual person. They work as the data and research manager at New Disabled South, where they lead research projects focused on Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).
Caesar Thompson
Caesar Thompson is enrolled in a joint BA/MPH program in public health with a concentration in community health sciences and a minor in social justice at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
Dennis Tran
Dennis Tran (he/him) is a queer, partially blind, disabled and late-identified autistic-ADHD Vietnamese American storyteller living life with glaucoma, chronic conditions and C-PTSD, who grew up in a low-income household.
Yolanda Vargas
Yolanda Vargas is a queer, fat, multiply-disabled Latina woman. She has spent the last 12 years of her life trying to make the world less hostile for her fellow marginalized people.
Cierra Olivia Thomas Williams, M.A.
Cierra Olivia Thomas Williams, M.A. is a disability justice and public health consultant with over 17 years of experience advancing violence prevention, survivor-centered practice and systems-level change.
