About NPHW

Create your own team

The team competition is purely for fun…and bragging rights, of course. With everyone spending more time at home and indoors, this is a great opportunity to create a team with your friends and family, neighbors, or colleagues to motivate them to stay active. Set up your Challenge team on Walker Tracker’s platform and you can track your physical activity and convert it to steps for both yourself and your team.

Crossing the U.S. on our challenge map is an ambitious goal and we need teams of every shape and size to get there. Our partnership with Walker Tracker means the Challenge can accommodate both an organizational team of up to 100 people as well as a family of four. Good luck to you and your team!

Step 1: Register your team with Walker Tracker

We're excited to welcome a variety of team efforts representing APHA Affiliates, APHA Sections, college alumni groups, company teams and public health departments. We also encourage groups of friends or families — all are welcome.

Teams of two or more can compete together to step to the top of the leaderboard. If you’re interested in creating or competing as a team, follow the directions below!

1. Nominate a team captain and decide on a team name/image.
2. The team captain will then register the team at https://aphakeepitmoving.walkertracker.com.
3. Create an account if you haven't already, and connect your device.
4. Toggle to the teams tab:

Step 2: Invite people to join

Team members can join your team through the teams tab or the Walker Tracker app by joining the group and searching for your specific team name. You can also invite people by their user name or real name on your team page. Make sure you provide the team name when you invite people to join the Challenge.

Guide people to www.apha.org/keep-it-moving as well so they can get information on Challenge goals and learn how to sync up their step-counting device or enter activity manually.

Help us cross the country!
It's time to get moving — and it’s more fun if we do it together. That’s why (insert organization/group name) is participating in APHA’s Keep It Moving Challenge. We’ve created a team called (insert team name). When you join you’ll be able to track how far your activity takes you each day, see total distance for our team and the collective progress of all teams toward the goal of crossing the country on a virtual map. You can sync your step counting device or enter activity manually if you don’t have a device. So register today, and let’s get moving! We’ll have a lot of fun, improve our heath and move more than any other team! Join today!

Step 3: Get your team moving

Now that you have a team, it’s time to get active. Think about what motivates your group to keep it moving:

  • Set a goal for your team’s total steps or activity. The Walker Tracker app makes it easy to see just how far you’ve come by charting your progress on its National Parks of America map.
  • Go “streaking”: Reach 10,000 or more steps each day for 30 days. Remember to convert activities into steps.
  • Give a small prize to the most active member of your team each week or month.
  • Challenge another team to an activity competition.

Find a way to get moving!

  • Decrease your screen time by going for daily short walks in your neighborhood.
  • Try out a Pilates or barre class on YouTube.
  • Take a hike with your family.
  • Do some bodyweight exercises or substitute household items for weights.
  • Host a virtual yoga or dance hour with friends.

Set reminders for yourself and your team to move every day. Frequent communication and encouragement will help keep your team on the right path.
