‘Tis the season for flu vaccination
It's National Influenza Vaccination Week! Help make sure everyone gets a flu vaccine this year. As long as flu viruses are circulating — and they are now, according to FluView reports — it’s not too late. Do yourself and those in your care a favor and give the gift of good health.
An annual flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. Vaccination helps protect all of us — not just those who get a flu shot, but also those around them. Vaccination is especially important for protecting people at high risk of serious flu complications, including:
- young children,
- pregnant women,
- people who are immunocompromised,
- adults 65 years and older and
- anyone with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.
So get your flu shot and spread the word about the benefits of vaccination throughout the holiday season. Finding a place to get a flu vaccine is easy with the HealthMap Vaccine Finder.
Public health professionals can find key information about vaccination, infection control, prevention, treatment and diagnosis of seasonal influenza on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website. Education resources such as fact sheets, graphics and videos are also available.
APHA's Get Ready campaign has even more resources, including fact sheets and easy-to-understand shareables covering flu and more.
