APHA Live: Be inspired, share with friends and earn CE credits

There are lots of reasons to sign up for APHA Live. But maybe the best one is the chance to hear inspiring calls to action and stories of public health success alongside the colleagues and partners you work with in your community. Of course, the opportunity to earn more than 16 free continuing education credits is also enticing.

Registration is open for APHA Live, which includes on-demand, online access to some of the top sessions from the APHA 2017 Annual Meeting and Expo, which gathered Nov. 4-8 in Atlanta and welcomed 12,000 public health practitioners, scientists, advocates, teachers, students and supporters from around the world. In all, APHA Live registrants will have on-demand access to 13 Annual Meeting sessions for up to a year after the meeting.

Among those 13 are the Opening General Session, which featured keynote speaker Eriel Tchekwie Deranger, an indigenous activist and a founding member and the first executive director of Indigenous Climate Action; Monday’s General session featuring former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy, who served under President Barack Obama; and the Closing General Session, which hosted a panel discussion with environmental justice advocates working in communities that face disproportionate risks from environmental health threats such as climate change.

Most of the APHA Live offerings underscore the Annual Meeting’s 2017 theme, “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Climate Changes Health,” which also served as the culmination of APHA’s Year of Climate Change and Health campaign. APHA Live sessions cover the role of the built environment, ensuring worker safety in the green job sector, climate-related disaster preparedness, the impact of climate change on food systems, the public health implications of climate-related displacement, and much more. Many of the APHA Live sessions also zero in on the relationships between climate change and health equity — which is the perfect primer for next year’s APHA Annual Meeting theme of “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Health Equity Now.” On top of all that, signing up for APHA Live means you can also earn up to 16.5 free continuing education credits.

Registration for APHA Live is $99 for APHA members, $199 for nonmembers and $449 for group registration (public health party!) For more information, a complete listing of sessions and a highlight reel of offerings, visit APHA Live.
