2025 Policy Action Institute to unpack federal and state public health policy under the Trump Administration

On June 16-17, The American Public Health Association’s 2025 Policy Action Institute brings together bipartisan policymakers, public health officials and advocates to Washington, D.C. for an engaging conversation on health policy in the new administration and how community leaders and state legislators are advocating for effective policies. As our nation’s Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sets out priorities, many are wondering what the new landscape means for public health policy in the future. This year, we will navigate the funding cuts and proposed reorganization of HHS, discuss ways to drive change and secure critical resources for communities.

“Questions remain how this Administration plans to improve health outcomes for all Americans. While some top-line priorities make sense, lots of holes remain in guidance and implementation as key programs, services and personnel have been cut and research slashed, much of which is necessary to track and measure progress,” said American Public Health Association Associate Executive Director, Susan Polan, PhD.

“The Policy Action Institute provides an opportunity to gather and learn where federal and state public health policy is going, hear what decision-makers are doing to advocate for communities already feeling the impact of this administration’s actions and energize attendees to advocate for their communities.”

Join us for lively discussions led by public health leaders and educators, policy and practice experts, legal advocates, legislators and politicians, including former Ohio Governor John Kasich, Tennessee House of Representatives member Justin Jones, and Senior Legal Advisor of Democracy Forward Joel McElvain, JD. You can find a full list of speakers and topics here.
