Statement from APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD
As we look toward a new presidential administration and session of Congress, many are wondering what changes in leadership will mean for the health of our nation. Whatever is ahead, APHA will not waiver from its commitment to strong evidence- and science-based policies. We will continue working with health-minded officials, community leaders, health practitioners and others to achieve optimal, equitable health and well-being for all.
While we expect significant policy changes with the new administration, we reject the idea that the values, perspectives and guidance we have articulated for many years are wrong and that we should back off. I assure you, that’s not going to happen. We will continue to work on behalf of the American people to improve their health by advocating for the best science-based social and health policies and programs. Achieving optimal health regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, economic status or geographic residence will remain our chief objective.
This is a time for decisive and strong leadership in public health, and we will continue to be that champion. If you’re a member, thank you for your engagement. If you’re not, join us. The future of America’s health is in your hands.
For Science. For Action. For Health.
