Description
There is growing evidence that the environment can play an important role in mental health — yet research into the effects of environmental stressors rarely focuses on behavioral and mental health outcomes. Please join a virtual workshop organized by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Standing Committee on the Use of Emerging Science on Environmental Health Decisions to explore emerging science on the relationship, harmful or beneficial, between environmental exposures and mental health.
Keynote remarks will be given by Sandro Galea, Dean and Robert A. Knox Professor, Boston University School of Public Health.
Workshop participants will also hear from:
- Nora Volkow, Director, National Institute on Drug Abuse
- Joshua Gordon, Director, National Institute of Mental Health
- Rick Woychik, Director, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program
Invited presenters and panelists will highlight the role of new diagnostic tools and methodologies in assessing the mental health outcomes of environmental exposures. Speakers will also discuss importance of inclusive and equitable approaches to research and policy to address the needs of populations at greatest risk. A series of video primers on key concepts in mental health and environmental health will be released in advance of the workshop.
