This year's World Mental Health Day focus is on suicide prevention.
Suicide is a global public health problem. According to the World Health Organization, more than 800,000 people die by suicide a year, making it the principal cause of death among people 15 to 29 years old.
World Mental Health Day is raising awareness of the scale of suicide around the world and the role that each of us can play to help prevent it. Organized by the World Federation for Mental Health, this year's Day is supported by WHO, the International Association for Suicide Prevention and United for Global Mental Health.
