Candidate Statement

I am honored to be considered for a position on the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association (APHA). With more than a decade of experience in serving, leading, and advancing public health systems at the local, state, and national levels, I bring a deep commitment to equity, quality improvement, and transformation in public health practice.

As the Assistant Director of Accreditation & Recognition at the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), I work at the forefront of national efforts to strengthen health departments through performance improvement and systems transformation. I understand the power of infrastructure, accountability, and strategic investment to drive health outcomes and community trust.

I also bring a wealth of Affiliate leadership experience to this role. As a Past President of the North Carolina Public Health Association and the current Affiliate Representative to the Governing Council (serving my second term), I have worked to amplify the voices of state and local practitioners, advocate for policies rooted in health equity, and build bridges across sectors and disciplines. I have seen firsthand the impact of NCPHA and APHA’s convening power—and the critical importance of supporting a strong, connected membership base that reflects the diversity of our public health workforce.

If elected, I will champion a bold and inclusive vision for APHA’s future—one that centers racial and health equity, supports the workforce through meaningful investment and recognition, and ensures our policies reflect the realities of practice on the ground. I will advocate for the voices of Affiliates, emerging leaders, and underrepresented communities to be centered in decision-making.

I believe this is a critical moment for APHA to lead boldly, and I would be honored to serve on the Executive Board to help guide the organization through this next chapter.

Thank you for your consideration.
