What's at Stake Now
The cuts are real and families are paying for them.
Disease detectives catch outbreaks before they reach your kids’ school. Restaurant inspectors keep your takeout safe. Water watchdogs test what comes out of your tap. Federal cuts are pulling funding and staff from all of them and families are covering the cost.
Food: SNAP reaches more than 5 million fewer people than it did when H.R.1 became law in July 2025. Participation is at its lowest point in 17 years, while unemployment has held steady.
Coverage: H.R. 1 cuts nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid and CHIP. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the law will leave 10 million more people uninsured by 2034.
Prevention: The CDC has confirmed 4,080 measles cases this year as of Oct. 8, the most since 1991. Vaccination rates among kindergartners have fallen below the level that protects whole communities.
Funding: The House FY 2027 bill would cut CDC by more than $1 billion. Until Congress acts, public health programs run on a stopgap bill that expires Dec. 11.
Congress rejected the deepest proposed cuts for FY 2026, with votes from both parties. We can win this fight again.
