Community Health Leadership Program Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

I'm a DACA recipient. Am I eligible to apply?
No, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The scholarship and fellowship are grant funded and so we are restricted with eligibility. We advise DACA recipients to look into funding support from your university, and you may want to review the scholarship section of this DACA resource guide (page 42).

Are international students eligible?
No, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

I'm an APHA Kaiser Permanente Community Health Scholar. Can I apply for the fellowship?
Yes.

My university isn't listed as a partner university, may I still apply? Can I apply if my degree isn't listed?

No, applicants must have a conferred degree as listed on our website from one of our partner universities within the stated conferral timeline. Due to grant restrictions, the program cannot make exceptions. We suggest you reach out to your university's career center or fellowship/scholarship office for other opportunities you may be eligible for.

Fellowship Questions

Does the fellowship cover relocation costs?
Relocation costs are the responsibility of the fellow.

Does the fellowship cover health insurance?
Health insurance is the responsibility of the fellow.

How long is the fellowship?
The fellowship is 12 months.

Does the fellowship offer career advising?

Yes, fellows receive complimentary career advising from a seasoned career advisor. Fellows are also urged to take advantage of their APHA membership and networking opportunities at their placement sites so they are well-prepared to apply for employment opportunities post-fellowship.

Am I guaranteed an offer of employment from the placement site after my fellowship concludes?
While this fellowship is a launch pad for early career professionals who want to become future leaders in public health, the fellowship is not a jobs pipeline and cannot guarantee a fellow will continue on at their fellowship site once the fellowship has concluded.

Where have fellows ended up post-fellowship?

The majority of our alumni are in senior and managerial positions at public health and healthcare organizations.
