Let's get social at #APHA2016
How many ways can you keep up with the 2016 APHA Annual Meeting and Expo next week? Let’s count the ways.
First, there’s the APHA Annual Meeting Blog, right here on our new home at Public Health Newswire — the nation’s leading source of public health news. Just like in past years, APHA’s dedicated bloggers will be bringing you daily coverage of this year’s gathering in Denver, reporting on new findings from scientific sessions, posting photos from social events and award ceremonies, bringing you highlights from keynote speakers and so much more. Daily blog coverage begins on Saturday, Oct. 29, and runs through Wednesday, Nov. 2. Make it easy on yourself and subscribe to the APHA Annual Meeting Blog to receive daily emails with links to our most recent coverage.
Then there are two APHA Twitter feeds — @PublicHealth and @APHAAnnualMtg. We’ll be live-tweeting a number of this year’s Annual Meeting events, including the Opening General Session with keynote speaker Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, and the Monday General Session featuring Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden, former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher and other former CDC leaders. You can follow all of our tweets from the Annual Meeting and join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #APHA2016. Last year, we counted 25,000 tweets in just a handful of days using the 2015 APHA Annual Meeting hashtag — can you help us get to 50,000 this time around?
APHA’s Storify will be posting daily from Denver as well, zeroing in on hot topics and events, such as public health student activities and happenings from this year’s Public Health Expo. Plus, Storify is a great way to share Annual Meeting news with your friends and colleagues — just click the “Embed” button in the top corner of the Storify page, copy the code and paste to your personal social media site. And let’s not forget APHA’s Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Flickr pages, where we’ll be posting Annual Meeting news, updates and photos throughout our five days in Denver.
For the third year in a row, APHA TV returns to the Annual Meeting. On-site in Denver, APHA TV will be broadcasting daily inside the Colorado Convention Center and in select hotels, with episodes featuring original interviews with national public health leaders, coverage of innovative public health initiatives and much more. If you can’t make it to Denver, you can catch APHA TV episodes on APHA’s YouTube channel as well.
When you arrive at the Colorado Convention Center, keep an eye out for our new and enormous nine-screen social media wall, which will scroll live Annual Meeting conversations from various social media platforms.
Finally, if all of this social media activity has you feeling left behind, then don’t forget to visit the APHA Annual Meeting Social Media Lab inside the convention center. In partnership with AIDS.gov, the Social Media Lab will offer a number of presentations on how to effectively use social media to improve people’s health, share strategies and engage followers in your message. In fact, you can sign up today to schedule a free one-on-one meeting with a social media expert.
