Harvard researcher and surgeon general to kick off APHA 2018

Renowned researcher and Harvard University educator David Williams will join U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams and others to kick off APHA’s 2018 Annual Meeting and Expo in San Diego in November.

One of the world’s most influential thinkers, Williams has authored more than 400 scientific papers with much of his work addressing how racism and other social factors influence health. He will deliver keynote remarks to address the meeting theme “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Health Equity Now” during the Opening General Session on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Williams will be joined at the opening session by U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams who will explore the power of partnerships to improve health.

“We’re excited and honored to have two of the world’s leading public health figures launch our meeting,” said APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin. “New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests 2017 will mark the third straight year that U.S. life expectancy has declined. We have our work cut out for us and this meeting will surely energize and equip us for the task ahead.”

Williams and Adams are just two of the many public health leaders who will speak at APHA 2018. The five-day meeting boasts more than 1,000 scientific sessions addressing the full spectrum of health challenges.

Registration for APHA 2018, which will be held Nov. 10-14 at the San Diego Convention Center, opens June 4. Attendees can save up to $115 when registering by the early-bird deadline, Aug. 16.
