Time's running out to present at the year's premier public health gathering

Time is almost up to present your research at this year’s APHA Annual Meeting and Expo, where you’ll have the opportunity to share your work with thousands of fellow public health researchers, workers, advocates, students and supporters from around the world.

Deadlines vary from Feb. 19-23 depending on the APHA member group to which you’re submitting an abstract. Annual Meeting reviewers are definitely looking for abstracts that align with this year’s meeting theme of “Creating the Healthiest Nation: For science. For action. For health.” However, abstracts from every corner of public health practice are welcome. This year’s APHA Annual Meeting, which hosts more than 12,000 people each year, will return to Philadelphia, convening Nov. 2-6 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

In addition to reaching a global public health audience, there are a ton of reasons to present at and attend the APHA Annual Meeting. You can choose from hundreds of scientific sessions, network and swap lessons with practitioners who share your passions, earn continuing education credits, get career advice, hear remarks from public health leaders and inspirational advocates, and help celebrate achievements from the field.

Here’s how the abstract submission process works: Each of APHA’s member groups — Sections, Special Primary Interest Groups, Caucuses and Forums — has put out its own call for abstracts, and a single abstract can only be submitted to one member group for consideration. (For a better idea of the research presented at APHA Annual Meetings, check out last year’s online program.)

You don’t have to be a current APHA member to send in an abstract; however, if your abstract is accepted, the presenting author must join APHA as an individual member and register for the Annual Meeting.
