Annual Meeting

Sandro Galea to kick off APHA 2019

Sandro GaleaCelebrated innovator, physician, epidemiologist and author Sandro Galea, MD, MPH, DrPH, will deliver keynote remarks during the opening session of the APHA Annual Meeting and Expo in Philadelphia in November. Galea is dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at Boston University School of Public Health.

He will join other leaders in kicking off the five-day APHA gathering, which will draw 13,000 public health professionals and more than 500 exhibitors to share the latest science and best practices in the field.

"We are delighted Dr. Galea will help open our meeting and inspire attendees for the important work ahead," said APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD. "He is a dynamic speaker and thought leader committed to transforming our approach to health. It will be an exciting start to an exceptional meeting."

The meeting’s theme “Creating the Healthiest Nation: For science. For action. For health.” builds on three core principles — science, to identify ways to prevent and treat disease, and to make the healthy choice the easy choice; action, to promote change and defeat health challenges; and health, to ensure health equity and access to care for all.

Galea is just one of the many public health leaders who will speak during APHA 2019. The meeting will feature more than 1,000 scientific sessions and address the full range of health challenges.

Registration for APHA 2019, which will be held Nov. 2-6 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, opens June 3. Attendees can save up to $119 when registering by the early-bird deadline, Aug. 8.
