Climate Change

"We're committed to making sure the nation knows about the effects of climate change on health. If anyone doesn't think this is a severe problem, they are fooling themselves."
-- APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin, in The Washington Post

Check out the American Journal of Public Health supplemental issue on Climate Change and Health Equity published with support from the Kresge Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Giving the public health community open access to the most recent and innovative research and application of climate and health solutions, this one-of-a-kind issue fills a void in the current research. To help make the information accessible to the general public, APHA translated a few of the articles into two user-friendly factsheets: Heat-Related Deaths (PDF) and Malnutrition (PDF).

Interested in advocating for climate change and public health action? Join APHA's Speak for Health Advocacy Bootcamp in Washington, D.C., for a two-day training tailored to public health students and early-career professionals on how to be an effective public health advocate. This year's bootcamp theme is Climate Changes Health. We'll cover the basics of how to advocate for evidence-based public health policies, including how to navigate Capitol Hill, how to amplify your advocacy with communications strategy and how to message your issue.

The Center for Climate, Health and Equity is offering 10 scholarships of $700 each to support students and recent graduates interested in attending the Speak for Health Advocacy Bootcamp. The application period is now closed. Scholarship recipients will be announced in June.
