Who We Are

The Mental Health Section supports research, policy and practice that addresses the mental health, physical health and well-being of diverse and vulnerable populations. Our Section was established in 1934 and includes members who started and developed our country’s public mental health field in addition to students and early career professionals who continue this tradition of leadership.

We are cross-sector and multidisciplinary. We include students and professionals located in 45 states and 17 countries, applying our expertise and talents in 30 fields of study to behavioral health. Members work at local, regional and national levels in roles addressing research (60%), policy (15%), advocacy (10%) and practice (15%).

We are committed to develop, foster and advocate for research, policy and practice that supports the mental health, physical health and well-being of diverse and vulnerable populations.

We are here to offer you opportunities to network, build careers and impact public behavioral health.
