Katherine (Katie) Sutkowi is the director of special initiatives in the Division of Prevention and Primary Care at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In this role, she supports operations and management of a division focused on chronic disease prevention and primary care access. Previously, she served as the founding staff member of the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance, organizing and advocating for community health worker sustainability and recognition. She has also served as a lecturer in health care policy for graduate students at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She has participated with the emerging National Association of Community Health Workers and the national Unity Conference. As part of APHA, Sutkowi has served with the Community Health Worker Section since 2011 in varying roles, including as a member of the executive, policy, and communications committees and as program planner. Most recently, she serves as the Section’s Action Board representative; she will be appointed Action Board chair for 2019. Sutkowi holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan.
