Membership Categories

All APHA members receive a subscription to The Nation's Health. Regular, Contributing, Transitional and Retired members receive both a print and online subscription to the monthly American Journal of Public Health. Student, Consumer and Special Health Worker members receive online access only. However, print copies of AJPH are available for the subscription fee of $30 per year.

Regular Member

Open to health professionals, other career workers in the health field and any persons interested in public health.

Contributing Member

Open to health professionals, other career workers in the health field and any persons interested in public health; includes extra benefits and recognition at the Annual Meeting.


Special Subsidized Memberships
Student Member
$60
Must be enrolled full time (a minimum of 9 credit hours) in a college or university. Proof of student status from the Registrar’s office confirming full time status is required.

Transitional Member
$110
Open only to current APHA student members who have completed their degree.  This member type is only available for one 12-month period.  It includes all of the same benefits as a Regular member noted above.

Retired Member
$80
Must be retired from active public health practice and no longer deriving substantial income from work-related activities.

Consumer Member
$80
Must be employed outside of the realm of public health and not deriving income from health related activities.

Special Health Worker Member
$80
Must be employed in community health with annual salary of less than $40,000 or the equivalent in foreign nations (W2 form or letter from employer verifying income must be attached).

Agency Member
fees vary
Agency membership is an organizational membership open to non-profit organizations which requires the approval of the APHA Executive Board.  Dues vary depending on the number of employees in the organization.  Once approved, staff/employees of the agency are eligible to register for the Annual Meeting at a discounted fee.  Please call (202) 777-2400 for more information.
