Membership Categories

APHA membership provides the best of what the public health industry has to offer including

  • print and online access to The American Journal of Public Health. AJPH is the leading peer-reviewed public health journal.  (Students and Special Health Workers receive online access only.)
  • print and online access to The Nation's Health, our award-winning guide with the latest news in public health.  And, you can take the information anywhere you go via your mobile phone or tablet.  The Nation's Health app provides mobile access to newspaper content as full-page, expandable images or as individual text articles. The Nation's Health is the highest circulated periodical in the field.

Membership is for one year (12 months) from the date you join.  Dues are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Regular

Open to health professionals, other career workers in the health field and any persons interested in public health.

Special Health Worker

Person employed in community health whose annual salary is less than $40,000 or the equivalent for foreign nationals.  Proof of status is required. 

Retired

APHA member who has retired from active public health practice and no longer derives significant income from work-related activities. 

Early Career Professional

Person who graduated in the last 24 months and is transitioning into the workforce.  Includes programs specific to new public health professionals.  This member type is available for three consecutive years.  Proof of status is required. 

Student

Person enrolled full- or part-time (minimum of 6 credit hours) who is actively pursuing a degree.  Students also receive membership in the Student Assembly - the largest national student-led public health organization.  Proof of status is required. 

Students can purchase a print subscription to The American Journal of Public Health at a reduced rate of $30/year.

Agency
fees vary
Open to non-profit organizations with dues based on the number of employees.  Membership requires approval from the APHA Executive Board.  Once approved, staff/employees of the agency are eligible to register for the Annual Meeting at a discounted fee.  Please contact the Membership department for application requirements.
