Harry Kwon is the director of the Division of Research Education in the Office of Extramural Research, Education, and Priority Populations at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This division oversees the Agency’s research education, training, and career development award programs. Before joining AHRQ, he served as a Health Scientist in the Office of Communications and Public Liaison at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health and provided program management and evaluation support for several cancer control and prevention education programs and led capacity building efforts for public health practitioners. Prior to federal service, he was a Technical Director in the Communications and Health Marketing division at Macro International (now ICF International) and provided program leadership and management for several public health programs.
He currently serves as the Chair of the APHA Education Board and is a board member of the Council on Education for Public Health. He is also the past chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health, in official relations with APHA. At the local level, Dr. Kwon served two terms on the Montgomery County, Maryland Commission on Health and chaired the Asian American Health Initiative Steering Committee of Montgomery County.
He received a BA in social ecology and a BS in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine and a Master of Public Health degree in health promotion from the Graduate School of Public Health at San Diego State University. He earned his PhD in public and community health from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is also credentialed as a Master Certified Health Education Specialist by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
