APHA Announces New Website

Dear Colleagues:

It is with great pleasure that the American Public Health Association announces our newly designed Web site. The new Web site is a product of a thorough review infused with the advice and input of APHA leaders and members. We have added many new elements to make information on APHA’s content-rich Web site more accessible and updated or eliminated much old material. New features include the following:

  • The new Web site has enhanced search features, such as the ability to search the whole site including The Nation’s Health, just The Nation’s Health or just the rest of the site.
  • Member login has been simplified. It remembers your member information so you only have to sign on once per visit.
  • Members Only content is now available through an enhanced format that places the information in the area it belongs. This eliminates the cumbersome Members Only area, but preserves Members Only benefits. This information is indicated with a lock.
  • Executive Board and staff information is greatly expanded to improve Association-wide communication and is available on the public portion of the site.
  • We have added an A – Z index of health topics and have begun to populate it with both health and advocacy information. This feature will grow exponentially in the coming months.
  • Navigation across the site is greatly improved. When you click on a link to an external site you now open a new window so you can easily return to the page where you were previously. Also we have added a “bread crumb” function to show and track your navigation through the site and added a comprehensive site map.

Another exciting development is that APHA is now able to host Web pages for each APHA Section. For a preview of what they will look like visit the Epidemiology Section site. We will work with all Sections over the next few months to convert their existing Web sites and information to this new look. Additionally, in the coming months as the Affiliate Infrastructure project rolls out we will work with Affiliates to supplement or arrange for hosting their sites.

This redesign and enhanced functionality would not have been possible with out the hard work of APHA staff; our IT consultant, Cooper and Associates; our Web vendor, SusQtech; and, of course, our members. Thanks to you all.

Please let us know what you think. Every attempt was made to move all current and important information over, but due to the organization of the prior site and the variety of information on it, some may be missing. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Please send comments to Comments@APHA.org.

Sincerely,

Georges C. Benjamin, MD, FACP
