Leadership Development Efforts
The American Public Health Association (APHA) is an Affiliate member of the National Public Health Leadership Development Network (NLN). APHA supports the mission of the Network which is: “to build public health leadership capacity by sustaining a collaborative and vibrant learning community of leadership programs in order to improve health outcomes.”
APHA provides opportunities to the NLN at our annual meetings to lead discussions on leadership issues in public health that serve to strengthen the performance and effectiveness of public health systems and public health agencies.
Several articles have been published by members of this Network.
2012 National Public Health Leadership Network (NLN)Meeting
The 2012 NLN meeting was held in St Louis, Missouri in April.

The recipient of The 2012 Balderson Award for Support of Public Health Leadership Development was: Karlene Baddy, Director of Public Health Systems and Partnerships of The American Public Health Association (APHA).
The recipient of The 2012 Balderson Lifetime Public Health Leadership Award was: Joyce Gaufin, Executive Director of the Great Basin Public Health Leardership Institute.
The NLN is a consortium of organizations and individuals from academic institutions, national and international organizations, and local, state, and federal agencies dedicated to advancing the practice of public health leadership.
