Tobacco Control and Prevention Among African American Youth
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death today. Tobacco use accounts for more than 440,000 deaths per year. The numbers are rising among youth and minority populations. The Howard University Hospital in conjunction with the American Public Health Association has established an initiative to educate pediatric residents and public health professionals on the importance of tobacco prevention and treatment, willing enabling practical tools and advocacy skills. This effort, incepted in 1999, is funded by the American Legacy Foundation.
