Asim Jani, MD, MPH FACP

Dr. Asim Jani, MD, MPH FACP, received his undergraduate (1983), medical degree (1987), and MPH (2001) from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He is board certified in Internal Medicine (IM) for which he trained in the U. of FL affiliated community based program at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in 1991. After two years of being Asst. Director of Medical Education as faculty at the IM residency program, he completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases (ID) under John Sinnott, MD FACP at the USF TGH-ID Center in 1995. Subsequently he worked as clinician, ID consultant and community educator in the public sector for the Florida Dept. of Health in Orlando, FL. He has developed an innovative patient education and treatment adherence program referred to as the Center for HIV Education, Empowerment, Research & Support (C.H.E.E.R.S.) that was presented at the 2000 International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa. This program was also selected as the winner of the 2001 Patient Care Award for Excellence in Patient Education. He has developed a comprehensive regional website for Central Florida, that will be presented in Barcelona at the XIV International AIDS Conference. He is also involved in developing a new on-line journal, Journal of the Global AIDS Pandemic at, a product of BioMedCentral. He is a member of many organizations, including the International Association for Physicians in in AIDS Care and the APHA. He is currently in the Office of Epidemiology at the Virginia Department of Health.
