Continuing Education (CE) - Accreditation

Registrants can earn up to 33 continuting education credits in CHES, Nursing and CME (for physicians and non-physicians) during the Annual Meeting. The Continuing Education (CE) flat fee is  $50 fee per discipline and must be paid before the close of on-site registration on November 11, 2009.

In order to receive credit, an online evaluation must be completed for each session or institute attended. The CE fee covers all CE contact hour credits for both the Learning Institutes and the Annual Meeting scientific sessions, and is in addition to any Annual Meeting or APHA Learning Institute registration fees.

Continuing Education Statements - APHA has found that the continuing education component of its Annual Meeting is compliant with the accreditation criteria of each of the following accrediting bodies. For further information, refer to the printed Annual Meeting program tab labeled Continuing Education, or contact the education staff at 202-777-2521.

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) - The American Public Health Association (APHA) is accredited by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc., to sponsor continuing education for Certified Health Education Specialists. The APHA Annual Meeting is a designated program/activity for the CHES to receive a maximum of 33 Category 1 credits in health education. Each 90-minute scientific sessions earns 1.5 CHES credit.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) - The American Public Health Association (APHA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The APHA designated this educational activity for a maximum of 33 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM  .  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Note: The number of maximum credit hours are subject to change.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) - The APHA/PHN Section is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

All this information is accessible online. Abstracts/Proposals of interest can be printed out in advance of the meeting. Due to high printing costs and environmental concerns, the printed abstract volume is no longer produced.
