Injury and Violence Prevention

The American Public Health Association (APHA) works with partners such as the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) – to bring national attention to the burden of injury and violence and employs a public health approach for its prevention and control.  APHA recognizes that policy strategies are paramount in addressing injury and violence prevention at a population-based level as well.

These activities are a part of the Center for Professional Development, Public Health Systems and Partnerships'  portfolio which brings together several programs that intersect to educate, inform and communicate with the public health workforce.

What’s New?

APHA Annual Meeting Policy Evaluation Trainining

APHA in partnership with the NCIPC held a Practical Policy Evaluation Training for Public Health Practitioners that kicked off at the 140^th APHA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Ca. This effort is part of the goal of developing a robust foundation of evaluated injury and violence prevention policies for the field.

This opportunity provides a forum for discourse, collaboration, learning, and skill building among injury and violence prevention professionals. Ultimately, this training aims to improve state health department and other public health partners understanding of policy evaluation and enhance overall public health policy capacity.

Through a RFA process four health departments were selected to participate:

• Arkansas Department of Health-Injury Prevention and Control
• Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Health Promotion Unit, Injury Prevention Program
• Ohio Department of Health
• Rhode Island Department of Health
