APHA Education Board Working Committees

In 2005, the Board, using a group planning process, selected three sets of activities and formed three committees on which to concentrate activities during the coming years:  Continuing Education, Technology and Public Health Workforce.  After the 2007 Education Board meeting a fourth committee was formed:  Public Health Education.  The following outlines the action priorities.

 

Public Health Workforce Committee:  John Neuberger Lead, J. Henry Montes – Co-Lead, Lynn Woodhouse – Mentee. 

 

Focus:  Strategic Plan # 3 – Provide leadership for APHA activities related to credentialing of public health workforce.  Strategic Plan #8 – Increase understanding and support by public health practitioners of the role and importance of practitioners having academic preparation at accredited programs/schools.

 

Continuing Education Committee:  Joan Reede – Lead, Kaye Bender – Co-Lead, Drew Harris, Jack Lanier, Michael Dickey – Mentee

 

Focus:  Strategic Plan # 5 – Propose and review methods for ongoing assessment of the educational needs of the APHA membership and the public health workforce.  Strategic Plan # 6 – Propose and review activities for the assurance of the quality of APHA educational offerings, and Strategic Plan #7 – Oversee and support the attainment and maintenance of disciplinary accreditation for the provision and approval of continuing education.

 

Technology Committee:  Chuck Treser – Lead, Amos Deinard - Co-Lead, Gillian Barclay – Mentee

 

Focus:  Strategic Plan #4 – Envision/develop innovative or reconfigured continuing education programs for APHA at annual or regional meetings and through distance technologies.

 

Public Health Education Committee:  Gerald Ohta – Lead, Michael Gemmell – Co-Lead, Delois Dilworth-Berry, Lynette Golding – Mentee

 

Focus:  This is a new committee formed after the 2007 Education Board meeting in Washington, DC in November 2007.  It’s focus will be determined at the mid-year meeting in April 2008.
