About CBA
APHA is one of five public health organizations that have received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide capacity building assistance (CBA) to state, tribal, local and territorial health departments as part of the National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII).
APHA’s goal is to support health departments in their use of policy and law to improve population health by:
- Providing direct technical assistance to NPHII grantees;
- Developing and compiling resources, including webinars, trainings, and toolkits.
- Researching, assembling, and disseminating promising and best public health policy practices.
- Launching a policy innovation contest to advance the development of innovative public health policy strategies and strengthen health departments’ capacity to use policy approaches.
