The National Student Meeting (NSM), sponsored by the APHA Student Assembly, in official relations with the American Public Health Association (APHA) is one of the most highly anticipated and heavily attended public health events for students of the year! The 8th Annual National Student Meeting half day conference entitled “Steps to a Healthier You: The Future of Public Health” will be held in San Francisco, CA on Saturday, October 27th from 12:00 pm-5:30 pm at the Moscone Convention Center.

The purpose of this meeting is to bring students together to discuss innovative advancements in public health. Professionals along with student group leaders have been invited to speak about health issues, wellness and prevention, and professional development. Students, don’t miss out on your opportunity this year in San Francisco to network with public health students from across the country, and the very sought after chance to participate in Speed Mentoring!

APHA-SA Speed Mentoring is an annual interactive experience where current students and recent graduates of public health degree and related programs have the opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced public health professionals during a speed session format. This year, APHA-SA Speed Mentoring will take place concurrently with the 8th Annual National Student Meeting on Saturday, October 27th 2012 from 2:30pm-4:30pm. Registration for this event was limited to 50 students and is already filled to capacity! Questions regarding Speed Mentoring may be sent to the APHA-SA Mentoring Committee Co-Chairs, Shanna Livermore and Grace Fidegon at mentoring@aphastudents.org.

            2. Demonstrates a positive attitude and acts as a
                positive role model.

            3. Takes a personal interest in the mentor-mentee
                relationship.

            4. Exhibits enthusiasm in the field.

            5. Values ongoing learning and growth in the field.

            6. Provides guidance and constructive feedback.

            10. Motivates others by setting a good example.

Do these qualities describe you? You can be a mentor at
any point in your academic or professional career. If you
        are an
early career professional, someone in an MPH
program would love to connect with you to learn how you
transitioned into your full time job. If you are an MPH
student in your second year, a first year might value your
        guidance!

        Please register here.
        Email us at
