Plans after school: My long term goal is to pursue a career in academia focusing on clinical epidemiology

Personal Statement about APHA-SA: I joined APHA as a student member with a passion for public health research and academia. I ascertained knowledge of APHA activities through the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) and APHA's monthly newsletter, “Inside Public Health”. This motivated me from a passive reader to a leadership role to serve as the Newsletter Co-Chair of the nation’s largest student-led organization. I recognized that the ripple effect of the support, encouragement and wealth of information provided by the APHA Student Assembly for a student’s personal and professional development is astounding.

As a newly elected member, I hope to support my team, encourage and solicit articles from fellow students to share their unique experiences through “News and Views” and also develop new projects to enhance student participation. Becoming a leader in public health does not happen overnight. It takes time, passion, energy and experience. I learned this early on and am thankful to APHA SA for this opportunity.
