Practice/Research Interests: Health disparities in adolescent sexual health; focus on adolescent pregnancy prevention among African American and Latino youth.
Other Leadership Activities: Maternal Child Health Bureau Graduate Student Internship Program 2010; Emory University Rollins School of Public Health Professional Development Series 2010
Plans after school: Upon completion of my doctoral degree, I would like to work for a government or non-profit research agency. I would like to focus on research in health disparities, particularly related to sexual and reproductive health issues.
Personal Statement about APHA-SA: I became involved in APHA-SA through my desire to learn more about the APHA Publications Board as a student representative. I was interested in becoming more involved in public health outside my university and specific research area of interest. Public Health is such a broad field that it is important for all of us in the profession to remain connected with common goals and experiences despite widely varying concentration areas. Becoming more involved with APHA-SA is an excellent way to make connections with public health students all over the country, as well as to gain valuable professional experience through working with APHA boards as a student representative.
