Degree Program: PhD Epidemiology
Practice/Research Interests: Asthma, air quality, environmental health, infectious disease, wildlife disease ecology, and the intersections of ecology and human health (i.e. ecohealth), science writing and teaching.
Other Leadership Activities: None.
Plans after school: I plan to pursue research work as an epidemiologist, and to teach at the college level.
Personal Statement about APHA-SA: I attended my first APHA meeting in October 2011, and attended a business meeting of the APHA-SA there, as part of a scholarship requirement. This experience introduced me to the myriad activities and opportunities of the APHA-SA. So, when I received the solicitation for APHA-SA leadership position applications, I was immediately interested. I decided to apply for the Website Committee Co-Chair position because it complements my interests in science communication. In addition, I have previous website creation and management experience, and so I felt I could readily contribute in this way. I’m very much looking forward to this professional development experience, and to getting more involved with APHA-SA!
