APHA-SA Biosketch: Bogdan Rau

Involvement in APHA-SA:

Action Committee Co-Chair (2012-2013)

School:

San Diego State University

Department:

Epidemiology

Degree Program:

MPH - Epidemiology

Practice/Research Interests:

Using technology to improve quality of life for patients and non-patients. Interested in the intersection of quantified self, population health management and mobile devices. Currently researching predictive factors associated with mortality due to cardiac arrest among cardiovascular patients.

Plans after school:

After finishing my MPH, I plan on working for a health technology organization to use my knowledge of population health and health management to design and implement applications that improve the health of our communities.

Personal Statement about APHA-SA:

APHA-SA is a key platform for collaboration, networking and professional development that gives Public Health students the opportunity to get involved in their communities, as well as the nation as a whole.

From an Action Committee perspective, we challenge our members to create true impacts in their communities by understanding their cause, building a movement and starting with WHY, versus WHAT. As Simon Sinek mentioned in one of his TEDx videos: "People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it!" This couldn’t be more relevant than in action campaigns that students passionately pursue on a consistent basis.

I encourage all of our members to get involved with the Student Assembly, especially the Action Committee. We are all united in improving our health and the health of our neighbors and believe that everyone has something to bring to the table.
