Plans after school: After obtaining his PhD and CHES certification, Dr. Rogers intends to (1) secure funding for 5 years with the National Institute of Health’s Health Disparities Research Loan Repayment Program, (2) secure a post-doctoral position in academia or a National Institute of Health, and (3) build effective political alliances with Congressional representatives and other policymakers as a health education advocate to strengthen and expand the resource base for health education programs and practice.

Personal Statement about APHA-SA: Mr. Rogers has faced numerous obstacles throughout his development, but has taken the road less traveled by numerous times by challenging himself to make the right decisions to overcome them. Since his collaborations with faculty mentors have galvanized his research interest and leadership potential, he continues to lift others as he climbs to success by mentoring individuals of all ethnicities and various backgrounds. Currently, he serves as a doctoral GRA with the Center for the Study of Health Disparities (CSHD) at Texas A&M University where he provides leadership for research, education, and community engagement to address local, state, and national efforts to eliminate health disparities.

As a novel yet unwavering scholar in the public health arena, Mr. Rogers will continue to be a valuable asset to the APHA-SA family. As the current National Student Meeting Director, he is confident that he is purposed to on the front lines making changes that directly enhance members’ professional development. As an active member of the APHA-SA, he will continue to push the mission and challenge members to be servant leaders of change whose research and practice focus on people instead of papers.
