Practice/Research Interests:  Infectious diseases, specifically HIV/AIDS and STIs. Health care disparities and community health. Public health administration and program evaluation. Social and behavioral determinants of health.

Other Leadership Activities: Co-chair of Logistics Committee for the Bloomington AIDS Walk (2009-Present), Chair of Volunteer Committee for the IU Public Health Student Assembly (2010-2011), Chair of the Bloomington World AIDS Day Ceremony (2010-2011)

Plans after school: Academically, after obtaining my masters in public health, I would like to continue my education to obtain my PhD in public health. I plan on working to decrease the incidence rates of health disparities, primarily HIV/AIDs. My ultimate career goal is to work for one of the operating divisions within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I hope to one day work as the director of programs for one of the prevention teams offering insight and called upon by other public health professionals for information on creating prevention programs that work for small and large communities. I aspire to help in developing, executing, and managing national HIV health marketing initiatives and programs.

Personal Statement about APHA-SA: 

Before attending the 2011 APHA meeting, I researched opportunities for students to get involved. I was looking for an opportunity to meet other public health students and professionals and stay updated on the latest information and research. On the website, I came across the APHA-Student Assembly information and instantly wanted to become a member. After attending the 2011 Student Meeting I was extremely interested in getting involved in planning and volunteering within the Student Assembly. I talked to other Student Assembly members about leadership positions opening and how to get involved. I applied for the Student Assembly Co-chair position and I’m extremely happy to be appointed for the position. The APHA is the biggest meeting of Public Health professionals and something I plan to be involved in for as long as possible. As students it is our goal to learn as much as possible about our educational interests. With the help of the Student Assembly it is my hope that we all gain valuable information that will strengthen our learning and allow us all to have prosperous careers in public health. Attending the meeting is a wonderful opportunity and we hope to plan one of the best Student Meetings!
