Practice/Research Interests: I am interested in the health effects due to water recreation. Specifically, my interests are in the severity of illness due to either participating in limited water contact recreation, such as kayaking and rowing, as well as full contact recreation, such as swimming and surfing. My research involves using large epidemiologic data sets to help examine factors related to severity and the economic impacts associated with recreational waterborne illness.
Other Leadership Activities: I play an active role in the Illinois Public Health Association membership committee.
Plans after school: After I graduate, I plan to do post-doctoral research in a more focused area of Environmental Health. In the future I plan to either work in academia or for the government.
Personal Statement about APHA-SA: The APHA Student Assembly has been a huge part of my public health school experience. Being on the board has allowed me to create many contacts and let me have the chance to let my voice be heard as a student. It is fun and exciting to be able to work with students from across the country that have similar thoughts and opinions as my own regarding public health.
