APHA-SA Biosketch: Stephanie DeFlorio
Involvement in APHA-SA: Membership Committee Chair (2009-present), Secretary Elect (2011-present)
School: University of Illinois at Chicago Department: Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
Degree Program: PhD, May 2014
Practice/Research Interests: I finished my MPH in 2010 where I focused primarily on the relationship between gastrointestinal illness and water recreation. Currently, my research is still focused on water recreation, but more specifically on severity of illness across several beaches.
Other Leadership Activities: I am also a member of the Illinois Public Health Association Membership Committee
Plans after school: I hope to work for the EPA or get a Post-doc position
Personal Statement about APHA-SA: The APHA Student Assembly has been a huge part of my public health schooling experience. Being on the board has allowed me to create many contacts and let me have the chance to let my voice heard as a student. It is fun and exciting to be able to work with students from across the country that all have similar thoughts and opinions as my own regarding public health.
