APHA-SA: Biosketch Caroline D. Bergeron

Involvement in APHA-SA: Student Representative on the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) Editorial Board (2013-2014)

School: University of South Carolina

Department: Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior

Degree Program: Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

Practice/Research Interests: Aging, Health Communication, Women's Health

Other Leadership Activities: Chair of the South Carolina Public Health Association Student Section (2013-Present), Secretary of the South Carolina Public Health Association Student Section (2012-2013), APHA Campus Liaison at the University of South Carolina (2013-2014)

Plans after school: I plan on expanding my research and work with older adults either through a post-doctoral opportunity or employment in a research institute dedicated to healthy aging. I aspire to do promotion, education, advocacy, and policy-related work for healthy aging nationally and abroad.

Personal Statement about APHA-SA: As a student in APHA, we are automatically connected with the Student Assembly and all of its opportunities, including awards, scholarships, leadership and professional development opportunities. I learned about the student position on the AJPH Editorial Board through one SA weekly email. As I had been involved in manuscript reviews for important public health journals in the past three years, I felt confident that I could apply for this important leadership position.

The Student Assembly is a great way to stay connected to other public health students across the country and really is invaluable in keeping students informed of important activities, news, and opportunities available in and outside of APHA.
