APHA-SA Speed Mentoring is an annual interactive experience where current students and recent graduates of public health degree and related programs have the opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced public health professionals during a speed session format. The National Mentoring Program (NMP) Committee is always looking for energetic and reliable mentors to participate in the NMP! A good mentor possesses the following qualities:

The National Public Health Mentoring Program (NMP) Committee’s mission is to connect students with field practitioners to assure the retention of qualified and diverse students in public health, improving the relevancy of their public health training, and increase the readiness of new graduates to meet the challenges found in today’s public health landscape. Ultimately, the NMP sub-committee hopes to strengthen the field of public health through the retention and growth of strong and committed leaders.

- Manage the NMP database
Promote and Manage the nomination process for the annual National Mentoring Award in collaboration with APHA and the Student Assembly
Schedule, attend, and oversee conference calls with APHA-SA Board members, Mentoring Committee, and/or NMP Web Designer/Consultant or APHA Graphics Design Team
Contribute to the coordination of activities for the annual APHA meeting, in collaboration with the Student Assembly Board and potentially other sections of APHA

The NMP Committee is always looking for energetic and team-oriented volunteers to help with management of the database, creative ideas for recruitment of mentors and mentees nationwide, submissions to the Student Newsletter and the APHA Nations Health publication, development of exciting student-centered activities at the annual APHA meeting, and working collaborative with other Student Assembly Committees and potentially various Sections and Special Primary Interests Groups of APHA on mentoring related events.
