Section Report Definitions

Membership recruitment activity – any activity that is specifically designed to recruit new members and increase the membership of the Section.

Retention efforts – any activity that is designed to engage, retain, involve or otherwise preserve membership of the Section

 

Diversity should reflect age, gender, ethnicity, geography, sector, discipline (as appropriate to your Section) sector or other defining characteristic that add richness to the Section.

 

All-section emails – emails that are sent out as a “blast” through APHA to all members of the Section (APHA allows three monthly).

 

Listserve – an email list  to and from a list of subscribers

 

Candidate slate – slate of candidates for all Section positions.  This includes Chair, chair-elect, secretary, Section officers, Governing Councilors and any other official positions of your section.

 

Competitive– a fully competitive slate would include two or more candidates for each position.  

 

Diverse slate – the candidates should reflect the diversity of the membership of the Section.

 

Leadership of the Section– those identified in leadership positions in your Section – this can include the executive officers, Section Councilors, Governing Councilors and committee chairs.

 

Newsletters – official newsletters maintained by  APHA for each Section/SPIG.

 

Program Chair/Planner – the person responsible for planning the APHA Conference program for the Section

 

Business meetings – meetings at APHA Annual Meeting that are for conducing the business of the Section.

 

Scientific Sessions – those sessions that are solicitited from the membership of APHA for the Section program. 

 

Allotted – the number allowed to the section.

 

Award Chair – The person responsible for the solicitation of awards nominations and decisions for who receives awards.

 

Social Event – event planned at annual meeting for members of the Section to socialize and network.

 

Policy Chair – person responsible for the policy activities of the section, including the development and review of policies for the Section

 

Captain, Leader or Whip – person responsible for the coordination of Governing Councilors from the Section.

 

Student liaison – the student member from the Student Assembly responsible for sharing information to and from the Section to the Student Assembly.

 

Student focused activity – an activity designed for or by students to serve the student population of the Section or the Student Assembly

 

Involved – students serving on or taking responsibility for specific tasks as they exist in the Section.
