Awards

Each year, the Medical Care section honors several leaders in the field of public health and medical care. The awards are presented during the Annual Meeting.

The Avedis Donabedian Healthcare Quality Award aims to revitalize and impart an appreciation of the work of 1999 APHA Sedgwick honoree, Avedis Donabedian, MD, MPH, and to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of quality assurance and improvement.

The Arthur J. Viseltear Prize for Outstanding Contributions in the History of Public Health is awarded to historians who have made important contributions to the study of the history of public health.
The Medical Care section also holds a special program during the Annual Meeting entitled, “An Evening With…” . This is a venue to honor individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to medical care and public health.
