Areas/Topics of Interest in MCH:
a. I am interested in child health in developing countries, particularly health and social issues related to orphans & vulnerable children (OVC) and in the prevention of maternal-to-child transfer of HIV. In a broad sense, I would like to explore the concepts of poverty and social justice as they apply to the public health of women and children.
b. Additionally, I am currently working with and interested in issues related to children with birth defects.
Current Research/Area of Study:
a. Master’s thesis (May 2010): Association between family composition and the well-being of vulnerable children in Nairobi, Kenya
b. Currently working on a March of Dimes grant: Access to Health Care, Timeliness of Services, and Costs among Children with Birth Defects
Accomplishments:
a. Education: BS in zoology, BSN, MSPH.
b. Community: US Advisory Board for the Reach-Out Orphan & Vulnerable Child Centre, Kisumu, Kenya (member, secretary, and newsletter editor).
c. Awards: Delta Omega, Phi Kappa Phi, UNCC Nish Jamgotch Humanitarian Award finalist

a. Project manager, March of Dimes Basil O’Connor Starter Scholar Research Grant (Access to Health Care, Timeliness of Services, and Costs among Children with Birth Defects)
Future Work:
After completion of my doctoral degree, I hope to continue in the field of research and advocacy related to improving the health of vulnerable children.
