The MCH Section has spent the last year conducting a strategic planning process. Three goals for the MCH Section have emerged from the strategic plan. All goals focus on increasing APHA’s impact in the national policy arena for maternal and child health.
1) Policy Development—Influence National MCH Policies
a. Position APHA to Play an Active Role in MCH Policy Development
b. Submit timely position papers on MCH topics
c. Place MCH professionals into APHA policy positions
2) Leadership Development—Develop Leadership within the Section
a. Mentor new leaders from within the Section
b. Actively develop student fellows
3) Membership Engagement—Increase membership
a. Recruit new and retain current members
b. Improve communication with members about policy and programmatic issues

The MCH Section accomplishes many things within the APHA, from policy statements to providing testimony, presenting the annual Marth May Eliot and Young Professional awards, sponsoring an average of 25 scientific sessions per year at the annual meeting, and actively engaging with students.
