Objectives for 2008

(1) To complete and disseminate the results of our research-- The Effectiveness of Community-Based Primary Health Care in Improving Child Health: A Review of the Evidence and Findings from the Field

This year we plan to have the meeting of the Expert Committee guiding this review and complete and disseminate the definite findings of this review.

(2) To improve our promotion of CBPHC.

We plan to do this by:

attracting young professionals to our group by approaching their groups directly;

improving the communication of our message by the use of electronic media;

improving our annual workshop to better meet the needs of those interested in the area of CBPHC.

(3) To administer the American Public Health Association - International Health Section Award Program, sponsored by the Colgate-Palmolive Company for the third year to the highest standards. Under this program grants for community-based field research are awarded to young faculty and students at Schools of Public Health for behavioral hygiene promotion and Global Health.

We plan to do this by:

(a)  widely promoting this grant through electronic media;

(b) objectively examining all project proposals that are submitted;

(c)  awarding grants to the best proposals on the basis of the advice of 5 independent examiners;

(d) following up all research resulting from the awards to assure that the research is implemented as planned;

(e) seeing that the findings of the research conducted is disseminated through presentation at the annual meeting of the World Federation of Public Health Associations at the time of the APHA annual meeting and through media published by the APHA.
