In Memoriam Allan K Jones

Dear colleagues,

It is a sad moment to hear about Allen Jones demise who was fighting disease for more than two years. When he retired from WFPHA / APHA in 2005, I wrote " It is a great loss for the federation to loose such a genuine  diplomat, gentleman and an honorable image of the federation among international agencies" I then nominated him, and he received the IH Section award for distinguished services. I have seen Allen from day one in his position, building a cohesive group of association representatives, with modest leadership, self denial and continuing effort to self development in global health. As a true diplomat, he and his great wife Beverly always hosted all foreign delegates at their home in D.C, and his continuing efforts in fund raising, with a smile and modesty, attracted extensive funds that were directed to host delegates and congress presenters and support associations from developing countries.

He was skillfully able to separate his relation with APHA from the federation with fairness, objectivity and dedication, and served all the federation members with honor at all times, to the extent that international delegates, at his time demanded raising his title to Secretary General not the  secretary, a title that was imposed on him with difficulty and not solicited.

In conclusion, I am offering the deep condolences on behalf of our APHA international Health section members of 1600+ international health specialists, wishing to extend our deep heart felt sympathy to Beverly and his family, and his sincere friends in the federation.
