The Disability Section has various committees to ensure our work is accomplished collaboratively with section members.  Below are summaries of the specific committees and their activities, as well as contact information for each of the committees.

 

We strongly encourage participation from Disability Section members to join committees and be an active member of the Disability Section. Please contact the current committee chair for the committee you are interested in joining.

 

Disability Section Student Webinar Series

 

The purpose of the student webinar series is to promote learning, provide an opportunity for students to share their research, and network with leaders in the field. All webinars will be live captioned. Recordings and transcripts are available for every webinar.

 

Quality of Life for Persons with Intellectual Disability

Date: Wednesday June 12, 2013

Time: 2:00 Eastern

The presentation will focus on 1) the development of a measuring Family Quality of Life among caregivers of adults with traumatic brain injury, 2) the implementation and evaluation of a program to encourage women with ID to be more active in their health care, and 3) family members and staff experiences and care received by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the end of life.  

 

Barriers to Health Promotion for Persons with Disabilities

The presentation focused on 1) the impact of communication barriers to receiving proper care in rural setting, 2) the influences towards participation in an internet-based physical activity program, and 3) research findings on the Safe and Accessible Routes to School project.

 

Health Promotion for Individuals with Disabilities

The presentation focused on 1) development of a barriers to physical activity questionnaire, 2) development of a health promotion program for individuals living in group homes, and 3) discussing the importance of improving health and increasing physical activity for adults with spina bifida.
