Photo journal Demonstration Project proposal deadline June 19: To celebrate 40 years working to promote community health planning and policy development in communities, the CHPPD Section is soliciting proposals for the Photo Journal Demonstration Project. Proposals should be submitted online by Friday, June 19, 2009. Each journal will be made up of upto photographs with captions, and should narrate the impact of community health planning and policy development, including a historical context. Between three to five photo journal demonstration projects will be awarded, and awardees notified by July 20, 2009 (modified May 20, 2009).

Webinar/audioconference: Wednesday, April 1, 3 - 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time - Measuring the Value of Community Prevention : Some studies have indicated that practitioners do not understand the practical application of community prevention return on investment findings. The Trust for a Healthier America's report, Prevention for a Healthier America: Investments in Disease Prevention Yield Significant Savings, Stronger Communities, found that there is a return of $5.60 for every $1 spent on proven community-based programs implemented to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, andprevent smoking and other tobacco use. Staff from the Prevention Institute will focus on explaining ways that communities can apply the cost-benefit analysis findings. Registration required. CHPPD abstract submission deadline extended to Friday, February 20, and call for reviewers: The deadline for submission of APHA abstracts has been extended, and abstracts should be submitted to the CHPPD section by February 20th. Please get your abstracts in as soon as possible. On that same note, why not help us review the submitted abstracts? By becoming an abstract reviewer, you determine which proposals are of the highest quality and greatest interest in community health. Your contribution ultimately shapes CHPPD’s program during the annual meeting. December 4: In the 2007 CHPPD Membership Survey, members described benefits of participation as: personal growth, helps with activities related to their jobs, and connecting with people. Mostmembers were interested in getting involved in issues related to community health, planning and public policy. The detailed survey results are being discussed among the leadership to identify ways to get members engaged and working towards improving community health.
