The Third Annual Community Health Planning and Policy Development Section’s Community Action Day will take place during the APHA Annual Meeting in Boston on Saturday, Nov. 2. Once again, it’s an opportunity to get out of the convention center to learn about and contribute to a local community by partnering with a community-based organization, network with CHPPD and APHA members and leaders, and put community health concepts into action!
This year, CHPPD is partnering with the Mattapan Community Health Center to bring you this event:

HEY! Let’s Eat and Dance for Good Health welcomes community preschoolers, children, young adults, middle-aged adults, and older adults, and will feature:
Guest celebrities known for their commitment to healthy cooking, eating, and living;
Opportunities to learn about, and get enrolled in, Massachusetts' Health Insurance Exchange;
Cooking demonstrations; and
Dance instructors leading dance sessions such as Salsa, Zumba, Cha-Cha Slide, and the Wobble.
Plan to be in Boston on Saturday, Nov. 2 so you can participate!
The event will be a great way to network with each other and with CHPPD leaders, community leaders in Mattapan and the greater Boston area, as well as to contribute to a local community need and fantastic community event! See best practices and public health concepts in action, and learn about the unique culture and environment of this Boston neighborhood! This event is part of Food Day 2013. For some of you, this may be an activity you can use for continuing education credits.

We are seeking CHPPD volunteers to invite celebrities and performers, solicit product samples, fundraise, or contribute in any way you are willing and able. In its brand new facility, Mattapan Community Health Center is a comprehensive federally qualified health center serving more than 8,000 individuals and their families from Boston neighborhoods and the surrounding communities since 1972. MCHC is the only community health center and largest employer in Mattapan. It is affiliated with Boston Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Partners HealthCare in Boston, and led by a diverse Board of Directors, an experienced senior executive team, dedicated providers and nurse practitioners, and other staff members who represent the communities served. Through its annual Community Health Report Card developed in collaboration with the Research Office of the Boston Public Health Commission, MCHC tracks key health indicators and communicates health trends to the community. These data are used to redefine existing and initiate new community health improvement projects.
